Local studens works with international designers
The ArktiskMat event have for ten years been located in beautiful and quaint Sjøgata as a backdrop. The historical surroundings set the tone for the food event which this year has "Origins" as its theme. Despite the unique surroundings Sjøgata offers a number of challenges in relation to event planning. One is to find arenas large enough to accommodate the over 100 guests who are attending ArktiskMat.
In order to ensure enough space ArktiskMat and the carpentry class at Mosjøen videregående skole has done a collaboration with the American design company Designers on holiday. Together they’ve created a pavilion that is suitable for the dining experiences offered during the weekend.
Student involvement is an important mission for ArktiskMat. The collaboration gives the students an valuable insight to what it’s like to work with several actors in the industry, and experience in solving challenges that arises in the process.
The project is also a great lesson in sustainability, local culture and modern design solutions as the pavillions are partly redesigned of existing marked booths from the traditional Tiendebytte. They will also be easy to assemble/disassemble for later use. The local business community has also become involved in the project and Montér has given good discounts on the additional materials needed.
