Myken Distillery
Crafting spirits at the edge of the Arctic
We are delighted to welcome Myken Distillery as another exciting addition to the ArktiskMat 2026 programme.
Located on the tiny island of Myken, 32 kilometres off the coast of Northern Norway, the distillery has become an important part of the local community — and a remarkable example of innovation, entrepreneurship and craftsmanship in the Arctic.
Here, in a former fishing village surrounded by the Arctic Ocean, traditional coastal culture meets modern spirit production. With just 13 permanent residents, Myken has nevertheless attracted international attention as a destination for those curious about Arctic culture, local entrepreneurship and the unique communities that thrive on the edge of the sea.
The island's dramatic landscapes, seasonal contrasts and remote location are not simply a backdrop. They are an essential part of the Myken story — shaping the way people live, work and create.
During ArktiskMat, Myken Distillery will bring the spirit of the island to the festival through a curated tasting and presentation. Participants will get an insight into Myken's history, culture and entrepreneurial journey, and discover how a small island community can create something with a reach far beyond its shores.
